Travel Poster Sizes Explained: Which Size Is Right for Your Wall?
Share
Choosing a size is the step most people hesitate on. A poster that looks perfect on a screen can feel lost on a large wall, or overwhelming above a small desk. This guide walks through the six sizes we print, with simple rules to pick the right one for each room.
The six sizes at a glance
| Size (inches) | Size (cm) | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 8×10" | 20×25 cm | Desks, shelves, small nooks, gallery walls |
| 12×16" | 30×40 cm | Bedside walls, hallways, groups of two or three |
| 16×20" | 40×50 cm | Above a chest of drawers or a small sofa |
| 18×24" | 45×60 cm | Living rooms, bedrooms, office walls |
| 20×28" | 50×70 cm | A strong single piece above a sofa or bed |
| 24×36" | 60×90 cm | Large walls, open spaces, statement pieces |
Every size is available as a poster on 170 g matte paper or in a black wooden frame, ready to hang.
Rule 1: fill about two thirds of the furniture below
When a poster hangs above a sofa, bed or sideboard, aim for artwork that covers roughly two thirds of the furniture's width. Above a 200 cm sofa, a single 60×90 cm poster or a row of three 40×50 cm posters works well. Above a 120 cm sideboard, a 50×70 cm poster is usually enough.
Rule 2: hang it at eye level
A common guideline is to place the centre of the artwork around 145–155 cm (57–61 inches) from the floor. Above furniture, leave about 15–25 cm between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the frame so the two feel connected.
Rule 3: small walls, small formats
In a hallway, a bathroom or next to a door, a 30×40 cm or 40×50 cm print feels balanced. The 20×25 cm size is ideal on a desk, a shelf or as part of a gallery wall.
Poster or framed?
Choose the poster if you already have frames or want a specific frame colour. Choose the black wooden frame if you want something ready to hang the day it arrives. Our framed prints come in the same six sizes as the posters.
Mixing sizes on a gallery wall
A simple combination that works almost anywhere: one 50×70 cm poster in the centre, with two 30×40 cm posters on each side, aligned on their centre line. For a grid, keep all frames the same size and leave the same gap (5 to 8 cm) between them. Read our gallery wall guide for more layouts.
